Hitoyoshi city

Fukuda Shuzo Co., Ltd.

In 1935, Fukuda Shuzo was founded in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture by Kunihiko Fukuda, who was born in Reihoku Town, Kumamoto. We aim to distill spirits with an elegant and beautiful quality. We emphasize quality over efficiency by keeping a clean environment, by thoroughly cleaning and polishing the tools and the distillery floor, and constantly managing the temperature of the koji (rice-malt) and yeast. Our distillery is one that inherits Kuma Shochu’s 500-year tradition, faithfully preserving our traditional practices. The brand name at the time of foundation was Fuku no Tsuyu. Fukuda Shuzo & Co. Ltd. was established in 1954 and continues to this day. In 1964, we installed an automatic koji cultivation machine, giving our koji better consistency and ability to convert into sugar. In 1984, the factory was greatly remodeled as production increased. By renewing all of our facilities, we managed to better stabilise the alcohol quality and increase the yield. In 1982, we installed a vacuum distiller, which generates an elegant aroma and quality liquor with a smooth and clear taste. The current main brands are Sanga, Hanatebako, Tarumikoshi, and Gokujo. Since 1965, we have received the honour prize of the Kumamoto Regional Taxation Bureau Sake Awards 37 times. In order to make delicious shochu, we continue to evolve daily while refining our skills and the taste of our products.
